San Fernando Presbytery Indo-Pak Fellowship Christmas Play
Event Location: Artesia, California
On December 19, 2022, the Indo-Pak congregation performed their first Christmas play, “O Holy Night,” in Artesia. This event was free and open to everyone. Our cast and crew worked hard to create the sonic atmosphere and the cinematic sound with effects from a professional sound engineer and designer from Pakistan. The whole production team, cast, tech crew, and characters amazingly performed theatrical narratives and recreated the sonic environment of Christ’s birth story. The play was attended by Muslim and Hindu friends with great interest.
It was a wonderful experience to see tons of talent at one stage. Rehearsals and production were captivating, from King Herod’s courtroom to the manger scene. The live performance of the song ‘Mary Did You Know” by youth singers especially brought the biblical narrative alive in the sanctuary. The play offered insight into sharing Christ’s love and compassion to the dark world and how our immigrant community can participate in God’s mission in Southern California. The event brought families and friends together, and it was teamwork with intergenerational engagements. Due to public demand, the characters performed the Urdu Christmas carol, “Poorab Kay Majoosi” (O’ Magi’s of the East), again at the Christmas Eve service.
