Día de Los Reyes Celebration
Event Location: South Presbyterian Church – Dobbs Ferry, NY

The South Church of Greenburgh community hosted a Día de Los Reyes celebration on Friday, January 6, 2023.

We welcomed 47 guests ranging in age from 8 months old to 83 years old. Icebreakers including lining up in height order and alphabetical order (by first name) without speaking at all. In addition to serving a catered meal with traditional foods supplemented by pot luck dishes, we had several group and individual activities for participants.

The most popular activities were:
-Luminary and papel picado making
-Creating art with stars, ink pads and fingerprints
-Crown making and decorating
-Tattoo and Face painting
-Tic-Tac-Toe
-Singing
-Cake decorating

Our evening included a prayer service that focused on the theme of God’s Light. Each participant was given a star word and invited to reflect on the meaning of this word and to share their prayers for the upcoming year. The unifying theme song of the service was “This Little Light of Mine.” The service ended with each participant receiving a battery operated candle and processional out of the Sanctuary and into “the world,” which embodied our baptismal call to illuminate the world’s dark places with the light of God. We then resumed our celebrating by having dessert and drinks before ending at 8pm.
