Charleston Atlantic Presbytery High School Retreat
Event Location: Bethelwoods Camp & Conference Center – York, South Carolina
The Charleston Atlantic Presbytery‘s Youth Council hosted a high school youth retreat at Bethelwoods Camp and Conference Center in York, SC the weekend of February 24-26, 2023. There were 48 participants from 7 different churches in our presbytery. The Youth Council included 8 youth and 3 adults who helped to prepare for and lead the retreat using the PYT Connect resources. Three of the Youth Council members individually led the keynote sessions while all 6 council members in attendance divided the task of small group leadership.
All of the keynote and small group sessions were held on Saturday along with a Friday evening welcome session and Sunday morning closing worship. Saturday afternoon also included a station rotation in which each small group took turns visiting stations to help prepare the liturgy, table cloth, and bread for Sunday’s communion. The retreat participants seemed to really enjoy taking ownership of the tasks to prepare for worship.
Of course one of the highlights of the weekend was when participants were presented with their PYT swag bags! Another highlight was our Saturday night “Where Did We See You?” Glow Party. The Youth Council decided to host a dance party featuring glow sticks, glow glasses, glow jewelry, etc. to play off of the weekend’s theme. Very fun!
Overall the retreat was a huge success due to the support and materials provided by PYT!
