Covenant Conversation: Nebraska Youth Workshop
Event Location: Westminster Presbyterian Church – Lincoln, Nebraska
Beyond Words: From Mere Welcome to True Belonging was an event held on August 26th with worship, plenary, time to connect, and workshops including Ministry and Support for LBGTQIA+ Youth, Family and Friends with the Rev. Lauren Peters. There were 12 churches that participated from Central Nebraska Homestead Presbytery and Missouri River Valley Presbytery.
In this workshop participants explored how we in the church can do a better job of showing understanding and enthusiastic support for young people of all gender identities and sexual orientations, as well as their parents and friends. We talked about critical questions of identity formation and spent some time on best practices and “things not to do.” We also shared concrete actions individuals and congregations can take to make their space more welcoming and inclusive for all youth, especially LGBTQIA+ youth.
