WORSHIP DAY ONE- “BORN TO DREAM”
Monday, July 28, 7:30 pm
Psalm 126 (“As if we were dreaming…”) Acts 2:1-21 (Pentecost story)
Preacher: Cece Armstrong
OPENING PROCESSIONAL – “We Are”
For each child that’s born, a morning star rises and sings to the universe who we are
We are our grandmother’s prayers, we are our grandfather’s dreamings
We are the breath of the ancestors, we are the Spirit of God
We are Mothers of courage, Fathers of time, Daughters of dust, Sons of great visions
We are sisters of mercy, Brothers of love, Lovers of life and the builders of nations
We’re seekers of truth, And keepers of faith, Makers of peace wisdom of ages
We are our grandmother’s prayers, and we are our grandfather’s dreamings
We are the breath of the ancestors. We are the spirit of God

CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of life, prepare our hands for a new and different touch. Prepare our lives for an authentic encounter – for experiences of awakening, hope, and compassion. We confess that many are the worn-out gestures; many are the movements frozen in time. Many are the useless excuses just to repeat attitudes…
Dreamer God, give us daring to create new ways of being community, new links of understanding breaking away from old ways of relating. Encourage in us true, meaningful ways to move into relationship and serve as your people. Amen. ~ adapted from Ernesto Barrow Cardoso, Brazil, “Gifts of Many Cultures”

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
Dream Giver, today we heard the story of Pentecost, a moment in which you revealed yourself as the Holy Spirit to your disciples and created a full-fledged Christian movement – a movement still known to this day, seeped in justice and clothed in love. Like the day of Pentecost, we pray that Triennium be an experience we never forget, filled with the movement of the Spirit.
However, we admit, as this week begins, we bring with us our worries and fears. We are anxious about what is to come – whether we will make new friends or miss our people back at home. What will we learn? What will we do? Who might we become?
Loving God, we pray for you to ease our doubts and quiet our fears, so that we might be fully present these next few days. We pray for connection, empathy, and understanding as we seek to be the Church, together. We pray for our families and loved ones back at home, that they are well in our absence. We pray for our youth leaders who have gotten us here safely and who are committed to this experience just as much as we are. We pray for the Triennium planning team and all those who have dedicated years to making this event happen, so that with your help we can dream bigger than ever before.
We celebrate that this community of young people has traveled far and near to be here in Louisville, Kentucky, and worship you together – through prayer, lessons, conversations, the arts, and recreation. We celebrate your presence in this space, and the passions and dreams you have given each of us to pursue on this earth.
We thank you for bringing us here, in this time, and this place. And so we pray the prayer of the one who dreams for and with us, who taught us to pray saying…
