Community Life

For the first time, the Presbyterian Youth Triennium is being held in an urban, convention center setting. The Community Life ministry team has two important volunteer opportunities and ways to support participants of the 2025 Presbyterian Youth Triennium!

The Care Team

Our Care Team (CT) will include approximately 25 adults who will support the well-being of all PYT participants at events in the Kentucky International Convention Center and as they move to and from their hotels.

CARE TEAM JOB DESCRIPTION

This team will help nurture a positive, hopeful, and secure environment in which youth and adult participants feel welcome and safe.

The Care Team will be responsible for such things as the following:

  • Being a hopeful presence to whom participants may turn for support or care.
  • Being a visible presence, easily identifiable by wearing distinctive t-shirts or vests (which we will provide).
  • Circulating through and around PYT events (recreation, worship, and on the streets around the convention center and near hotels).
  • Helping those who are ill or injured access the care they need.
  • Being alert to young people in need of physical or emotional care.
  • Liaising with the PYT’s Community Life Team, reporting problems or concerns needing to be addressed.
  • Keep a log of adverse events should they happen (illnesses, injuries, misbehavior, etc.) on a provided electronic form accessible from your personal smart phone.
  • Communicate between Community Life Volunteers by using your personal smart phone.

The Care Team member is…

  • Able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time, walking approximately 18,000 steps each day.
  • Able to tolerate high heat and humidity.
  • Flexible and able to respond to changing circumstances.
  • A calm and nurturing presence when others are anxious.
  • Respectful of young people, their growing maturity and needs for dignity.
  • One who holds a healthy perspective and is able to distinguish “annoyances” from “problems.”
  • Able to tend their needs for rest, prayer, nutrition, and quiet, while remaining available to respond to emergent needs and working into some late nights.

The PYT will cover the bulk of your event-related expenses (food, travel, lodging). The majority of volunteers will be sharing a double hotel room. We ask all volunteer leaders to contribute $100 toward their expenses. Paying for registration and travel for the event will be a challenge for many of our youth participants, their families, and congregations. Your contribution of $100 will signal your personal commitment to the event as you support our efforts to help reduce costs for all participants.

The Hotel Team

Community Life plans to have 2-3 people serving as part of a support team for each PYT hotel. Hotel Team (HT) members will help nurture a positive, hopeful, and safe environment in which youth and adult participants feel welcome and safe.

HOTEL TEAM JOB DESCRIPTION

The Hotel Team are the PYT representatives to whom Adult Advisors and Youth Participants can turn for such things as the following:

  • Be able to walk long distances.
  • Be able to tolerate high heat and humidity.
  • Welcome delegations as they arrive on opening day, offer information that can speed the check-in process along, orient them to the important PYT locations, and describe the fun events already happening!
  • Support Adult Advisors as they support the participation, safety, and well-being of their young people.
  • Maintain a presence in the hotel lobby at the start and close of each day so that participants know where they can turn for assistance.
  • Be the liaison between hotel residents and the PYT’s Community Life Team, reporting problems or concerns needing to be addressed.
  • Keep a log of adverse events should they happen (illnesses, injuries, misbehavior, etc.) on a provided electronic form accessible from your personal smart phone.
  • Communicate between Community Life Volunteers by using your personal smart phone.
  • Help PYT participants experience the event as one that is meaningful, educational, and fun even as they adhere to the Covenant and Guidelines for Community Life.
  • Maintain good health and sense of humor in word and deed.
  • Be flexible, willing to cooperate, and open to suggestions.
  • Able to tend their needs for rest, prayer, nutrition, and quiet, while remaining available to respond to emergent needs and working into some late nights.
